If I can't sell it this fall I'll work at gettig the heads installed, put it back in the garage and then list it again in the spring, adding in the cost of the head install labor.***
\n
\nSelling our 1996 Boston Whaler Rage 18, 18 foot jet boat and EZ Loader 3100 trailer. This is the same hull as an Outrage, built for 2 years only as an open bow, hot rod, jet boat cruiser! It is powered by a Redline Marine 351W 5.8L High Output engine, rated at 285 HP. We bought this boat back in 2010 as we wanted something safe and sporty, but liked the idea of no prop as we have 6 kids. It was originally owned and operated in SW Washington on the Columbia, then brought down to the California desert for several years, when we purchased it and brought it back to WA. We had the pump and mechanicals gone through back then by Motor Boat Mart in Olympia, who serviced it initially, also had some of the original gray parts replaced (only available in white) until we started using Jerry and Tony Skagen to keep it maintained since. Over the years we have become more of a Waverunner / Jet Ski family so have really not used the Whaler much at all in the past 5 or 6 years. It has been stored in our dry garage always since we've owned it, started and ran on the hose yearly and fogged for the winter. We have only used it in fresh water, primarily at Lake Wenatchee in the summer. We pulled it out of the garage today, checked and readied everything and it started within 5 seconds. No smoke, no stumble. Listen to the video and hear that V8 rumble!
\n
\nThe High Output Redline V-8 is in great condition, has not really required much maintenance, we just did what Skagens recommended. It has 3 bar Ford Cobra heads. Oil is clean. we have only used ethanol free gas or Top Tier pump premium treated with Marine Stabil. The last time we ran the boat on the water, I noticed a pinhole clear water drip from the port head when running wide open, so instead of repairing it I purchased another set and had them rebuilt by Scott Performance (Skagen recommendation) in Auburn and drilled out to fit the 351W block. I have been trying to connect with Tony to install the new heads, but our schedules haven't worked out, so we haven't used the boat on the water since I noticed the drip. The heads are as newly rebuilt, dry and wrapped up, waiting for the next owner to install. I have a new set of Fel-Pro gaskets and new ARP head bolts that will go with the boat. (Note that when I just ran the boat this week on the hose I did not notice any pinhole drip, but either way I'm including the new heads, gaskets and bolts with the purchase.)
\n
\nThe pump mechanicals have always checked out OK by Skagen and I keep it greased with Valvoline per factory recs. Skagens told me this is actually an FW-309 American Turbine jet pump, as I thought it was an SD-309. Everything is in great shape.
\n
\nThe interior was mostly re-upholstered after we purchased it and all is good, but the pilot's seat could use a re-cover of the headrest at least. All the hatches/hinges work. Gauges all work except the speedo fluctuates, the Lowrance has never worked for me, not sure if it is the head unit or the transducer, never tried to troubleshoot it. Radio works, has a Cobra radio and Shakespeare long range antenna, but also haven't used those ever.
\n
\nThe hull is in great shape as well. We installed a heavy duty keel guard and have not had any issues. These is some mild crazing but primarily where the full canvas snaps are. There is full blue custom canvas covers and we also have a full boat cover as well, also heavy duty. There is also a matching blue fold down bimini top.
\n
\nThe fully galvanized EZ Loader 3100 17-20 trailer is amazing. Every time we launched the boat I had people ask about it and want to buy it. It has the 3100 lb torsion axle and I changed it to oil bath hubs after a bearing/spindle issue, so you NEVER had to worry about greasing the hubs. It has a heavy duty Fulton Swing Tongue and a HD dual wheel Fulton tongue jack. Tires are like new tread, but some years old as I replaced them a while ago. Spare is brand new, As you can see it has full walking platforms, galvanized (NOT plastic) fenders, extra guide-ons, LED lights, 4 wire harness. It is a beast and certainly one of the best, single axle trailers money can buy.
\n
\nI just put in a new AGM battery today, the other AGM was fine. Has the Perko battery switch. Cables were all good last time we ran it, newer throttle cable, the steering seemed a bit tight to me today but I haven't messed with it. Electric trim works perfect, just checked it today. I just pulled it out of the garage today and took the pictures, didn't really have a chance to detail it though FYI. I have a copy of the original engine manual, the Boston Whaler Rage 18 brochure, manual and wiring/build diagrams as well as the major receipts. All titles are good and in my possession.
\n
\nThis is a great setup for someone who appreciates all that it is. The value is really in the engine, AT pump, trailer and the Scott Performance Cobra Heads, and you get a legendary unsinkable Boston Whaler thrown in as well! You could use this boat with the family, tubing/wake boarding, cruising, fishing like we did, except we were the only boat on the water that could throw a 60 foot rooster tail! Or cut a hole in the hatch, put on a blower and have the coolest 7-8 passenger chase boat at MarDon next year.
\n
\nLet me know if you have any questions. I'm not interested in splitting things up at this point, just want to sell the whole package. Thanks for your interest.
\n","original_price":"$12,995","price":15000,"year":1996,"size":18,"original_url":"https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/boa/d/puyallup-1996-boston-whaler-rage-18/7787820553.html","createdAt":"2024-09-25T05:27:00.000Z","updatedAt":"2024-10-21T23:53:45.000Z","listAttrs":[{"id":9033761,"list_id":889699,"attr_name":"boat
