The vessel boasts a modified fin keel with a skeg protected rudder with a clipper bow and canoe stern. Her lead ballast is internally mounted.
\n
\n\"ATMA\" has a flush deck, small modern low aspect house and ‘T’-shaped cockpit with pedestal steering aft. The cutter-rigged FD-12 is a well-designed world cruising vessel.
\n
\nThe \"ATMA\" mast is keel stepped and positioned fairly well aft. It incorporates intermediate head stays which lead just behind the aft lower shrouds. The main mast is anodized extruded aluminum. Her main is double spreader rigged.
\n
\nThe vessel is substantially rigged with all stainless steel 1x19 rigging wire with swaged end fittings. Heavy duty chromed bronze closed barrel and toggled rigging screws are provided. Chain plates are heavy duty stainless steel.
\n
\n\"ATMA\" has a roomy, flush teak deck. At the foredeck are two large lift hatches providing ample access to below deck sail storage and anchor chain well.
\n
\nShe is amply equipped with sail handling winches. Two each Barient #32 and #28 and one #19 two speed self-tailing-winches are provided as are miscellaneous turning blocks, fairleads and cleats.
\n
\nOn deck safety equipment includes double lifelines with a suitable number of stanchions.
\nNon-skid surfaces are of teak. The aft cockpit is of moderate size with adequate drainage and high combings.
\n
\nThere are three bronze hawse-holes (freeing ports) to port and starboard. These are cut in to the bulwarks forward, aft and amidships.
\n
\nThe vessel is of good freeboard with two stainless steel, heavy duty, port and starboard boarding ladders.
\n
\nAuxiliary power is provided by a 2009 fresh water cooled 110hp Volvo Penta, diesel-fueled, Turbo-Charged, Five-cylinder inboard engine. Fuel is supplied by a total of approximately 300 gallons in black iron fuel tanks.
\n
\nBelow decks the vessel provides complete sleeping accommodations for at least six in three separate cabins.
\n
\nForward is a bosun’s locker with overhead hatches port and starboard. Aft of this is a forward head with shower. Aft of this is the crew cabin with port and starboard upper and lower bunk berths.
\n
\nAft again, is the main cabin provided with an exquisite round settee to starboard and a bench berth to port.
\n
\nFurther aft, up one step, is a large ‘'U’ shaped galley to starboard. The galley includes a double basin sink, four-burner Force-10 Propane stove/oven combination, Seafrost 15 cubic foot refrigerator, manual and pressure hot and cold water, countertops, pantry and storage cabinets. To Port is a large navigation station. A full head is provided to port as well.
\n
\nAft again along a walkway with a port side bench berth, convertible to a workbench, is the owner’s queen-size cabin to starboard.
\n
\nTo the rear of the vessel is a spacious bosun’s and mechanical locker/lazarette.
\n
\nThe interior hull and furnishings of \"ATMA\" are lavishly attended of teak and of trimmed and finished teak plywood. The vessel is professionally finished and furnished complete with a teak and holly cabin sole, trim and exquisite joiner work.
\n
\nCONSTRUCTION:
\nThe FD-12 hull is constructed of fiberglass sandwich cored with Airex/Vinyl foam. The naval architect present at the survey, reports the vessel’s design and construction as \"very strong and well built\".
\n
\nThe bulkheads are of teak veneered plywood with a vinyl foam wedge insert producing a ‘floating’ connection at the foot.
\n
\nThe deck is cored with Philippine fir, this was specified by the naval architect. The hull-to-deck joint is an inward-turning hull flange, overlapped by the bulwark flange. The joint is through-bolted, filled with Thiokol, coated with fiberglass and then topped with a teak cap-rail.
\n
\n\"ATMA\"’s keel is internally heavily ballasted with lead.
\n
\nThrough-hulls and the shaft-strut are of bronze. The propeller shaft is of 1.5\" stainless steel. The Martec folding propeller is of Monel.
\n
\nSTRUCTURAL:
\nInspection of the \"ATMA\" exterior hull areas above the waterline indicate that she is in generally good condition. The vessel has been well sailed and attended. Minor scrapes and abrasions are evident. Some chalking of the gel coat, but no more than expected on this 1980 vessel.
\n
\nIt is reported that the vessel’s bottom was epoxy coated in 1984 and again in 1990 and 2009. There are no physical signs of osmosis or FRP separation.
\n
\nInspection of the cabin and deck areas noted some loosened seams in the teak deck plank and several missing bungs. Here, it is likely that work in the way of refastening, epoxy injections, rebedding and recaulking will be required.
\n
\nThe interior of \"ATMA\" is well organized, very well equipped and need varnish and painting.
\n
\nAccessible hull interior structural areas such as bulkheads, longitudinal and transverse support members are well laminated and in good general order.
\n
\nEach through-hull below the waterline, excepting the transducers, is of bronze construction with U.S.A. manufactured Groco valves. The sounder and the knot meter sending units was constructed of nylon, epoxy or delrin plastic.
\n
\nRIGGING AND DECK FITTINGS:
\nStanding rigging is of marine grade 1 x 19 stainless steel wire. Running rigging is of Samson Dacron Yacht Braid. Rigging screws and toggles are provided.
\n
\nWheel steering is provided at the binnacle and controlled through a chain and cable system.
\nAccessible lines revealed no breaks. The quadrant and all parts of the system are observed to be operational. Engine controls are observed to be secure and operational.
\n
\nMECHANICAL:
\nThe engine is fresh water cooled through a heat exchanger unit. The engine’s overall exterior appearance noted a well maintained order. Close inspection noted engine beds to be in good order, as were the engine bearers and mounts. The stuffing box/Last Drop are in good general order. The engine exhaust is a typical wet riser system.
\n
\nSANITATION:
\nSeaLand Vacu-flush heads are installed in both forward and aft heads. A 75 gallon fiberglass holding tank is installed aft with a macerator pump for discharge overboard.
\n
\nELECTRICAL:
\nThe vessel’s electrical system was examined generally evaluating its installation.
\n
\nThe \"ATMA\" electrical system includes 3 twelve volt DC batteries, generator and 110 AC shore power.
\n
\nDC over current protection is accomplished through sixteen gang breaker panel and a six ganged subsidiary fused panel. Over current protection for the 110 volt AC system is provided through a master circuit breaker and a five gang subsidiary breaker panel. Both main and subsidiary panels are located at the navigation station.
\n
\nOne 12 volt DC master switch isolates the battery systems and is located at the navigation station. Battery replenishment is provided by a Heart Interface battery charger/inverter.
\n
\nA Kabota two-cylinder diesel-fueled engine is mounted in the lazarette. The engine has only 24 hours of operation and is ready for installation of either an AC alternator or DC generator to perform battery charging and/or water-making without running the main propulsion engine.
\n
\nWiring is noted to be insulated and of the stranded approved type. A shore side ground was observed and circuit testing reported proper polarity.
\n
\nGALLEY:
\nA Force-10 Propane combination stove/oven is provided.
