Lots of extras! Rigged for family racing and pleasure cruising. The Catalina 30 is a sailboat hall of famer, one of the most popular boats ever produced. Not hard to find information online on how to care for, maintain, replace and or find parts.
\n
\n I'm happy to walk you through every system and show you all of its ins and outs.
\n
\nWhen we bought \"Joy\" we knew there was a lot of potential but she had been neglected in all the little ways, cosmetic and letting systems like the force 10 heater, stereo, refrigeration, wind instrument and auto pilot become inoperative. The plus is the bigger stuff had been taken care of, she has good bones. We've fixed her up and improved on her in every way that matters for the cruising/racing sailing enthusiast.
\n
\nThings we've fixed/upgraded/checked are as follows:
\n
\nLaser cut new frameless windows. Rebedded nearly all deck fittings with \"bed it\" tape like butyl tape but made for marine environments.
\n
\nForce 10 propane heater. Keeps a nice cozy cabin when it gets chilly out. A 12v fan mounted on the cabin top by the heater helps warm the cabin faster and prevents the cabin top from getting to hot.
\n
\nGimballed stainless steel oven with 2 burner cooktop.
\n
\nBoth propane appliances above are connected to a Xintex S2A Propane/CNG fume detector/alarm and control system. It controls a freshly installed shut off solenoid just down stream of the composite propane tank in the aft lazarette. When the battery master is shut off or you press the off button on the control panel the solenoid closes and shuts off the propane. If the Xintex unit detects propane gas it will sound an alarm and shut off the solenoid valve also. Pretty nifty safety equipment.
\n
\n2 new CO2 detectors Sept 2.
\n
\n2 New ABC fire extinguishers July 24.
\n
\nWater system: plastic tank under the starboard sette. Under the aft quarter birth is a large water bladder we've been using as the primary. From there to a strainer, pump, and new accumulator. New shore water line
\nconnects right behind accumulator. New water line from deck fittings to starboard sette tank. 110v electric water heater under the galley sink.
\n
\n210' total anchor line. First 30' is chain. The rest is triple braid nylon.
\n
\nTwo Danforth anchors.
\n
\nNo windlass.
\n
\nCobra marine vhf.
\n
\nRaymarine auto helm 6200T. Works in heading mode only via Raymarine smart pilot. It is not connected to a chart plotter. It has a new ray marine remote before tax. You can engage the auto pilot and adjust heading from anywhere on the boat. Very helpful for short handed and even more so for single handing. The auto pilot could also be connected to a chart plotter to allow it to follow a predetermined course which would help with tide and wind corrections.
\n
\nRay marine C80 chart plotter, radar and fish finder display, gps receiver and radome included but not installed.
\n
\n
\nHorizon standard, speed, wind and depth instruments all working flawlessly.
\n
\nNew Pyle marine audio deck with blue tooth installed Sept 23. It's connected to two amps running to four 6.5 speakers in the cabin and a 12\" subwoofer under the V berth and two small speakers in the V berth. It's a bit over the top but sounds great!
\n
\nRoller furling headsail by East Sails in great shape. UV guard recently cleaned.
\n
\nNew Somerset mainsail, it's a tall rig, 37' luff, fully battened and loose footed with new slides and two reefing points purchased Sept 15, 2023
\n
\nNew internal 11:1 out haul system.
\n
\nBoom was drilled and pinned when installing the out haul system. Catalina 30's up to a certain year had a boom that would rotate around it's longitudinal axis. That's not that case now as it's been pinned thus preventing that rotation which is the standard set up.
\n
\nNew 4:1 Cunningham system attached to the boom gooseneck. This is better than using the Cunningham eye on the mainsail as there is no deformation of the sail shape.
\n
\nAll new running rigging August 2023.
\n
\nHalyards have been run inside the mast and exit plates installed with a double cam cleat for the standby halyard and a new spin lock constrictor clutch for the primary mainsail halyard.
\n
\nNew dyneema lazy jacks October 2023.
\n
\n Joy's primary Lewmar 30 two speed winchs had chrome that was in rough shape. Stripped them down to bare bronze and powder coated them white September 23.
\n
\nNew cam cleats for the headsail sheets Sept 23.
\n
\nTotal boat, \"total tread\" paint on raised tread areas of deck and lazarettes September 23. This is the second boat I've used this product on and it's really great stuff.
\n
\nNew stainless steel lazarette hinges/ hasps and neoprene seal tape October 23.
\n
\nAlmost all lighting upgraded to LED to include dimmable leds in the v birth, aft quarter birth and nav station.
\n
\nNoco Genius Gen5 x2 bank battery charger/ maintainer new September 23.
\n
\n2 Interstate deep cell batteries.
\n
\nAll electric wired connections that are accessible have been switched to solder link waterproof connections. All the electronics work as they should.
\n
\nJabsco marine head. Better than a bucket I guess.
\n
\nMagma grill with cover.
\n
\nBottom paint (cukote, light blue) by Seaview boatyard in Bellingham. January 2022.
\n
\nProp speed applied January 2022.
\n
\nMax prop 3 blade set at 10 degrees. Serviced July 2024. This is a 3k add on item but it might just help you win your next regatta as the prop feathers, I.E. the blades rotate and face forward to reduce the drag. Just get the boat above 3 knots through the water. Then shut the engine off while still in the forward \"gear\". After less than a second the prop should be feathered. You can then shift into neutral or leave it in gear, your choice.
\n
\nBottom inspected and new zincs Feb 2024.
\n
\nNo soft spots on the deck.
\n
\nBright work has all been stripped sanded and teak oil applied regularly.
\n
\nStanding rigging appears to be in good shape. I do not know when it was last replaced.
\n
\nUniversal Atomic 4 gasoline engine. There's a tag that shows it was rebuilt at some point by Pats Marine engines in Seattle. They are no longer in business. When? No idea.
\n
\nEngine compartment blower vents to the portside stern and has a new inline ignition protected blower installed as of 9/24. Fresh air inlet to starboard.
\n
\nCylinder compression test results 8-27-23:
\nFront of engine(facing towards the bow)
\n#1 - 100psi
\n#2 - 95psi
\n#3 - 95psi
\n#4 - 100psi
\nBack of engine
\n
\nEngine hour meter was not connected but read 187.1 hours when we purchased Joy. 14 hours logged before fixing hour meter. Literally just plugged a wire back in. Looks like the lip seal on the raw water pump went at some point and was replaced as there's some corrosion below it on the engine. I'm guessing the wire was bumped off it's terminal when raw water pump was repaired and never reconnected.
\n
\nEngine is Fresh water cooled which in turn is cooled via a heat exchanger with raw water. New fresh water Oberdorfer N202M-03 pump installed at 288.0 hours. Old (same model) pump is getting new lip seals soon and will be a back up pump.
\n
\nReplaced some of the bilge line and installed a new check valve and new float switch as of Sept 24.
\n
\nHour meter now reads: 292.6
\n
\nOil is 10w-30. No filter. Takes exactly 3.2 quarts to full on the dip stick if drained from oil sump below carburator with suction hand pump.
\n
\nQuick attach oil sump pump hose in place for a quick and mess free oil changes.
\n
\nBimini fabric, instrument covers and winch covers are Sattler Marine Grade Catalina Blue Fabric (6014) SKU: 124361
\n
\nSome spider cracking in the cockpit gel coat. This is typical for a boat of this age and does not affect it's sailing performance. If that's a no go for you, a boat from 1979 shouldn't be on your shopping list. Good news is they can be repaired if so desired. I have a gel coat kit but haven't found the time. The old dodger screw holes have been filled with epoxy and they are on the list to gel coat over also. Or re drill, install snaps and have a new dodger made.
\n
\n Diver said he saw a few \"possible very small blisters\" which is trivial stuff that can be sanded and epoxy coated to oblivion on the next haul out. If you're worried about a half dozen tiny bumps on the bottom of your boat you probably shouldn't be considering anything less than 20 years old.
\n
\n Minor dings in the hull/ gunwhale that were not repaired the best by the previous owners and the spider cracks in the gel coat are what I would spruce up if was keeping Joy.
\n
\nOther stuff, the fuel gauge only shows 3/4 full when the 20 gallon tank is indeed full. But I promise you when it reads empty you better be looking for fuel. When the gauge reads below empty you better add the fuel from your back up gas can. We had to go there to figure out what it can do. Now you don't have to; you're welcome.
\n
\nAdded an adjustable main jet to the carburetor as it was quite rich and plugs were sooty. Now they are just right milky grey.
\n
\nShe burns right at a gallon/hour maybe a little less. We've been cruising right at 1600 Rpm which gets us about 5 knots through the water.
\n
\nIf you want a hall of fame sailing classic that has loads of room for the length, descent performance and completely functional, this is the boat for you. I will walk you through all the systems so you don't have to waste your time figuring it out yourself then you can get to the fun stuff, sailing and chilling with friends and family.
\n
\n Plenty of random extras come with Joy. Impellers, fuses, spare lights, lines, life jackets and mooring lines ect ect ect. She's turn key and ready to sail.
\n
\n11' hydroforce inflateable with aluminum floor boards and Johnson 5hp 2 stroke is available also for .
\n
\n There is a wealth of information online. Check sailboatdata.com for specs. The stuff that really matters is answered above.
\n
\nSlip at Tyee Marina is transferable. / month or with power.
\n
\nIf you're interested and made it this far, reply via the boatexportusa add with your name and phone number. If the ad is still up, she's still for sale.
\n
\nAnd lastly, why am I selling after she's mostly all fixed up? Simply because I wanted a boat to sail and a project in my off time.
\n
\nThanks for looking.
